Miami Township, Ohio (April 4, 2016) - Montgomery County, Miami Township and Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County are working closely with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) after elevated levels of lead were found in soil at Layer Park. The park has been closed for the winter and will remain closed while additional testing is completed.
Layer Park is bordered by Polo Park Drive, Cordell Drive and Bushwick Drive in Miami Township. The OEPA contacted 20 homeowners whose yards border the park. Public Health will post signs warning the public of the lead hazards in the park.
During the 1930s through the 1950s, Layer Park was the site of a shooting range that resulted in lead shot falling onto the ground. Montgomery County owns the eastern section of the park, while Miami Township owns the western section.
Montgomery County, Miami Township and Public Health will continue to work with the OEPA as plans are made to remove the lead-contaminated soil.
