Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County in partnership with Miami Valley Organizing Collaborative & Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is hosting a fun, free event titled, “A Healthy Community Begins with You” on Saturday, September 29 from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton.

Organizers hope to promote a healthier community by sharing information focusing on
positive behavior changes and valuable community resources. Topics will include discussions
on food access initiatives, breastfeeding support, and the infant mortality crisis within Montgomery County.

The Ohio Department of Health reported that in 2016 in Montgomery County, there were
6.8 infant deaths per 1,000 live births with Black babies dying at a rate 2½ times that of
White babies.

“To see a meaningful reduction in infant deaths we will need a community-wide collaboration effort that touches on all aspects of the problem,” said Terra Williams, Director of Health Promotion for Public Health. “It is our hope that this event will strengthen the community
and raise awareness of these issues that will lead to positive changes.”

The event is open to the public and will feature music from DJ Marky’G and 227 Entertainment with a live musical performance from local artist Britany Weaver, and poetry from “Underdog Academy.” There will be free food with door prizes including a car seat, pack and play, and RTA passes will be available. For more information call (937) 225-5700.
