The first Miami Valley LGBT Horizons of Aging Summit, focused on helping LGBT older adults avoid discrimination in navigating healthcare and housing systems as they age, will take place Feb. 11 – 12 at Sinclair Conference Center, Dayton. Media opportunities include video and interviews with national experts.
Public Health — Dayton and Montgomery County, United Church Homes’ Ruth Frost Parker Center for Abundant Aging and Rainbow Elder Care of Greater Dayton are working to find solutions that help LGBT adults stay “out” as they age. The summit is an educational opportunity for the LGBT community and their allies on the journey for equality and dignity as underserved members of the greater community. It also will raise awareness for their unique challenges as they age.
Conference highlights include a screening of the film Gen Silent and a panel discussion with award-winning producers Stu Maddux and Joe Applebaum; 18 breakout sessions on various topics; and performances by Dayton’s own Rubi Girls and the Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus.
