Public Health Provides Basketball Hoops at Rec Center With the Goal of Increasing Physical Activity

Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County’s Creating Healthy Communities (CHC) Program has provided two adjustable basketball hoops for the outdoor basketball court at the Greater Dayton Recreation Center located at 2021 W. Third Street in Dayton. The basketball court is available for anyone to use.

The CHC Program strategy involves increasing opportunities for physical activity, improving access to affordable healthy food, and promoting tobacco-free living where residents live, work and play.

“Anytime we have an opportunity to create a better environment for physical activity for our residents, we are excited,” said Montgomery County Health Commissioner Jeff Cooper. “The renovation of the basketball courts at the Dayton Rec Center in West Dayton is another step toward building a healthier, safer, more thriving community.”

CHC is funded by a federal Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant administered by Ohio Department of Health. The CHC program goal is to reduce preventable risk factors for chronic conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes, in the priority areas of East, Old North, and West Dayton.
