Public Health Promotes Regular Exercise Walk!
Downtown Dayton is May 22
Public Heath – Dayton & Montgomery County is hosting the Walk! Downtown Dayton on Wednesday, May 22 at 11:30 am at RiverScape. This free, non-competitive event highlights the healthy benefits of walking.
Starting at 11:30 am a variety of vendors will be on hand featuring health and fitness information, blood pressure screenings and more.
The approximately one mile walk begins at noon and will take walkers along the Great Miami River with the start and finish at RiverScape.
“People who are physically active live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers,” said Terra Williams, Director of Health Promotion, Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends adults get at least 2.5 hours of aerobic activity per week. This should be at a moderate level, such as a fast-paced walk for no less than 10 minutes at a time.
