Public may resume normal river recreation activities

While limited sewage bypassing occurred immediately following the storm events last week, there has been no sewage diverted to the river since the afternoon of May 30th. Public Health in consultation with the Ohio EPA have determined that normal river recreation activities may resume. We encourage river users to follow the typical precautions including: not drinking river water, washing hands thoroughly and showering after river use.

History

Due to widespread power outages from the recent storms, Montgomery County Environmental Services began to temporarily redirect wastewater into the Stillwater River in Montgomery County to minimize damage to private property and residences. The Ohio EPA was notified of the bypass. On 5/28/19 as a precautionary measure, Public Health advised citizens not to enter or fish in the Stillwater or Great Miami Rivers in Montgomery County until further notice.
